A long train of abuses and usurpations
The deliberately glacial pace of the investigations of fraud in the 2020 elections is a comedy that may ultimately foreshadow tragedy
As I write these words, it is the Fourth of July and my neighbors are merrily celebrating America's 246th birthday with an assortment of low explosives and pyrotechnics.
The Declaration of Independence famously spelled out a long list of grievances and complaints by the colonists, “a long train of abuses and usurpations”, that were simply ignored by the British Crown. This ultimately provoked a revolt against the colonial governors and agents of the Crown, and their violent replacement by a completely new form of government.
This holiday is the perfect time to ask the obvious question: what have our own officials done in the recent past that might justify a similar response?
In Pennsylvania, where I live, the state legislature passed a law in 2019 that revised the voting system without bothering to ask permission from the voters first. This was a direct violation of the state constitution, which requires a ballot initiative to amend the constitution and change the method of voting. The voters must vote to change the method of voting, not just the legislature. This important principle of democracy was simply ignored by the state legislature.
That law, Act 77, had three important provisions that respectively required all mail-in ballots to have legible postmarks, that required all mail-in ballots to be delivered by 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Election Day, and finally required that the mail-in ballots would be rendered invalid unless all other provisions in Act 77 were followed. The Pennsylvania and US Supreme Courts, by a 4-3 vote and a tied 4-4 vote respectively, changed this so that no postmarks were needed for any putative "mail-in" ballots, and that such ballots would be counted if they arrived before 5:00 p.m. on the Friday after Election Day. The final provision, that every part of the law must be followed or else all mail-in ballots would be invalidated, was simply ignored by all three branches of the state government.
The PA and US Supreme Courts, by overriding the law that was written by the state legislature, directly contradicted the following part of the US Constitution: "The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof". This was extremely blatant, as the courts changed a deadline from Tuesday to Friday, and ruled that ballots with no postmarks somehow counted as "mail-in" ballots. The majority of justices simply ignored this absolute contradiction of the very plain language in the US Constitution.
A tractor trailer with up to 288,000 ballots was reported to have been driven into Pennsylvania from New York. The US Attorney for Eastern Pennsylvania, William McSwain, opened an investigation. US Attorney General Bill Barr ordered him to stop his investigation and turn the matter over to the State Attorney General, Josh Shapiro. Josh Shapiro was a candidate in the 2020 election - his name was on every ballot. He was expected to investigate his own re-election for voter fraud. Strangely enough, he has not found any problems so far. He is now the nominee of the Democratic Party for Governor of Pennsylvania in the 2022 election.
As the State AG is busy running for Governor, the FBI and the US Postal Service are now charged with investigating the matter. Jesse Morgan, the truck driver, was a USPS employee. He has not been offered whistleblower status. After more than a year and a half, no arrests have been made and no information has been released to the public. It appears that the government's plan is to "run out the clock", and wait until after the midterm elections and then quietly drop the investigation and say, "What does it matter anymore?" The only official who did try to investigate was ordered to stop. The state AG, the US AG, the FBI, and the USPS all appear to be simply ignoring the primary witness and his testimony.
Any government that desires to be recognized as legitimate by its own people must enforce its laws upon itself before it can enforce its laws upon its citizens. Our governments and officials are failing to do this in a manner that is so spectacular that it beggars belief. How could the US Attorney General think that it was fitting and proper to order a subordinate to transfer an investigation of voter fraud to a state official who was a winning candidate in that election? The conflict of interest is as plain as day. A failure to faithfully execute the laws of the United States, and an attempt to simply ignore them instead, has rarely been more completely obvious than this pathetic maneuver.
The cacophony of fireworks on the Fourth is a distant echo of the firing of the guns of the American Revolution that created our Republic. That is part of our past. If every legitimate complaint of corruption in our elections is simply ignored, the noise and sparks of today may also be a prelude to a grim future. Shall Americans once again be faced with a stark choice between either accepting the chains of servitude to an oligarchy, or else taking up arms once again in the cause of liberty? Will another day on the calendar join the Fourth of July as a day when rebels declared that they would no longer suffer the rule of tyrants?
Only time will tell, and time is running short.
